Car Vs. 18-Wheeler Collision Kills Duplin County Woman

One person has died in a collision with an 18-wheeler Wednesday night.

Vidant Medical Center officials confirmed that 76-year-old Mary Brown Woodard died after her car and an 18-wheeler collided on Highway 41 near Beulaville Wednesday night.

Troopers say Woodard was not wearing a seat belt.

Troopers say Woodard failed to yield right of way and crashed into the big rig, causing to it slide into a ditch.

The driver of the truck, Carlton Sullivan of Mount Olive, was taken to Vidant Duplin Hospital. He was treated and released.

Two people were sent to area hospitals following a crash on Highway 41 near Beulaville Wednesday night.

The Highway Patrol says an 18-wheeler and a car collided on Highway 41 in Duplin County, south of Beulaville, at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. Authorities say the collision sent the big rig into a ditch.

The woman in the car, 76-year-old Mary Brown Woodard was not wearing a seat belt and suffered serious injuries, according to lawmen. She was taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. The driver of the truck, Carlton Sullivan of Mount Olive, was taken to Vidant Duplin Hospital.

Troopers say Woodard will be charged for failing to yield right of way and for not wearing a seat belt.
