The driver of a van has been charged after troopers say his vehicle struck a bicycle today, killing a Wallace man.
The accident happened a quarter of a mile east of the Walmart in Wallace on Highway 41 around 1:30 p.m.
The Highway Patrol says 59-year-old Larry Matthews was thrown off his bike, which was in the traffic lane. Manuel Kenerson was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
Troopers say the bicyclist was not wearing a helmet, and speed of the van was not a factor. The highway was blocked off for about 90 minutes because of the crash.
A bicyclist has died in an accident in the Duplin County town of Wallace.
The Highway Patrol says the accident happened around 1:30 in front of the Walmart on Highway 41.
Troopers are assisting Wallace police with their investigation.
