Arrest Made In Sunday Murder; Probe Continues Into Triple Shooting

An arrest has been made in a murder that deputies say led to a triple shooting yesterday in Duplin County.

Sheriff Blake Wallace says Jabriel Grimes, 20, of Wilmington was charged with accessory after the fact to murder. Nicholas Bennerman was gunned down early Sunday at the Duff Creek Community Center.

Wallace says Wednesday's triple shooting in Greenevers may be connected to Sunday's murder. In the latest shooting, one man was killed and two others wounded.

Previous Story

The investigation continues into a triple shooting Wednesday afternoon that rocked a small Duplin County town.

One man was killed, while two others were wounded in what deputies say was a shootout on a Greenevers street.

Sheriff Blake Wallace says it appears that the dead man, Trevor Carr, was walking down Pasture Branch Road with 21-year-old Javonte Hill of Greenevers. The sheriff says they met up with 23-year-old Elijah Bennerman along with other people. An argument began and shots were exchanged between at least the three men.

Bennerman and Hill were sent to New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.

Bennerman is the uncle of Nicholas Bennerman, who was killed early Sunday morning at the Duff Creek Community Center. Wallace says they believe Wednesday's shooting was in retaliation for Sunday's murder. He said so far no one has been charged and they are still trying to identify the other people who may have been involved.

Wallace says the area was quiet last night and his deputies will continue to saturate the area.

Previous Story

Authorities now say one person is dead and two other wounded in a shooting in Duplin County.

Earlier today lawmen told WITN News that two people had died in the shooting on a Greenevers highway.

Sheriff Blake Wallace says the shooting happened on Pasture Branch Road around 1:00 p.m. He says apparently the three men got into some sort of altercation and shots were fired between at least two of the men.

The dead man, 18-year-old Trevor Carr of Greenevers, collapsed at the scene. A second victim ran to a nearby home, while a third person ran and later collapsed on the highway. All three men appear to have been shot multiple times. The two who are still alive were sent to New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.

Wallace says they believe the shooting is related to this weekend's homicide outside of Teachey. He says one of the people wounded today is related to the victim in Sunday's murder.

In that shooting, 21-year-old Nicholas Bennerman died after being wounded at the Duff Creek Community Building early Sunday morning.

The sheriff says all of the shootings are possibly gang related.

Names those injured have yet to be released.

The sheriff is asking for a curfew in the community for the rest of the week and says deputies will have a heavy presence in the area.

I'm just praying for everyone and their families. Kids shooting kids....over what? They should have other reasonable things to do. Having guns at the age is crazy to me. Please Parents pay attention to your kids.

When are these people going to do something about this foolishness. You got these boys running all over Duplin County trying to be big time drug dealers so they can live the "big boy" life. I know these police officers cant be that busy or that dumb not to realize what is going on right under their noses. These guys go out and make a little bit of drug money and then run out and open a barbershop or something to try to clean up some money. There is no way in the world that a barbershp is making enough money to be driving brand new Mercedes and Audi's that are paid for. And the crazy part is that most of them are already felons with drug charges. What happened to checking tax records and following up on tips? If someone really looked hard enough, they would realize that these guys are all tied in together. Somebody needs to make examples out of these guys. Whats worse is the parents that support their kids selling drugs. They're constantly spending the drug money that their kids rolled in but still talking trash about the next person's child and sitting in the front row and shouting in church acting like they are better than everyone else. And all you little boys that are running around selling for these guys, the sooner you realize that you are nothing but "the bossman's" little b*tch, the better off you will be. Get your own mind. Do your own thing. Go to school and get a pell grant check, go to the military and get paid to do some hands on training. They dont care about you, they just care about you risking you life and freedom to pad their bank accounts...GET A CLUE!!!!

Whats crazt to me is that everyone has something to say about what these kids need to be doing but you never hear anyone saying "I donated something to help start a youth program to keep these kids off the street". These people in this community are warm-hearted and caring but lets face it, they dont have a lot of money. There are some people who are well off but the youth of duplin county seems to be the furthest thing from their minds. There are so many empty buildings that are just sitting and waisting away to nothing but they wont let you do anything with them. I have tried numerous times to put in proposals for some kind of youth programs, but have been shot down over and over. I know from experience how boring it is down there and I was sooo happy to be able to get away from there and I vowed that I would do my best to make a change some kind of way. I have been saying for years that its nothing to do there but get in trouble. Young girls are having sex and getting pregnant way too early and guys are watching these movies, shows, and videos and trying to live the "gangsta" lifestyle that is portrayed on tv when they actually know nothing about it. Im sick of seeing my family members being killed over nothing. Everytime I go back to visit duplin county, there is something new, i.e. Mad Boar, Walgreens, Wal-mart, McDonalds....etc. They took everything out of wallace and moved it out onto 41 and the reason appears to be that people out there have more money. So once again that just proves my point that unless you have money in Duplin County, you are dumed.

I hope everyone that has something negative to say, realizes that God is watching and he sees all and you will judge accordingly. Then people can judge whether you went to Hell or Heaven! Be Blessed. I am the uncle of the deceased!!!!!

Honey, just calling it like I see it. I read the obituary.....if it was a mistake then maybe the family should get it corrected so it looks like he came from a two parent home. Does it matter? His facebook page was nothing but gang related! I see it's been removed for public view. As far as the Bible and's not judging when you are just saying what has been written or discussing a picture that has been posted by the young person himself.

It's one thing about God he looks on the inside when man looks at the outer. I pray that God have mercy on your soul while you sit in your glass house throwing rocks. To God be the Glory!
