Farmers React To Recent Rainfall

Many eastern counties got dumped on Wednesday by heavy rainfall.

This includes many counties that have been suffering abnormally dry conditions.

The hot and dry weather continues to plague farmers along the coast.

The National Weather Service says rainfall totals measured this year around New Bern's Coastal Carolina Regional Airport are 5 inches below normal.

This has plagued farmers like Mike Haddock in Jones County.

He says his corn and soybeans have really taken a beating.

But he praised heavy rainfall Wednesday that brought nearly 4 inches of precipitation.

To his crop and even though his outlook for the season is positive, it's been a rough late spring.

Officials with the National Weather Service say rainfall totals measured in Hatteras and around the Outer Banks however are slightly above normal.
