An administrative office at the Duplin Correction Center was evacuated Monday afternoon when an employee said they smelled natural gas.
The fire marshal says today they found the source of that leak, an underground coupling that was rusted. Officials say the gas to the prison was cut off and crews are working to replace the faulty line.
No one was hurt and inmates were not evacuated.
Duplin is a minimum security prison outside of Kenansville with 328 inmates.
