Student Sent To Hospital After School Bus Crash

State troopers say charges are pending against a school bus driver after her bus ran off the road and got stuck in a ditch Monday morning.

Nine children were on the Duplin County school bus that was headed to James Kenan High School. Troopers say the driver, Kristy Hall, was making a left onto Highway 117 at Bowdens Road near Warsaw when the accident happened.

Authorities say one of the children complained of injuries and was take to Duplin General Hospital. The school system and the Highway Patrol says they are continuing to investigate the accident.

Thank you Greene County Volunteer FF for your comment! I actually drive a bus and you hit the nail right on the head! Buses are made to protect the children if the children are sitting like they are supposed to. the seats are padded all around. Heaven for bid that there ever was an accident where the bus turned over in a place where there was lots of water and the children were in seatbelts not able to get out OR if the bus was to catch on fire with the samething happening. It could actually cause more problems having seatbelts than not!!! Parents need to back the drivers and Help enforce the bus safety rules to ensure a much safer ride to and from school!!! That will be a big help in answering the concern.

Volunteer FF I respect that you volunteer and help out I do but seatbelts save lives and having the children restrained in place during a wreck would reduce injuries. All rescue units have cutting tools that will cut a seatbelt in 3 seconds in the unlikely event it wont just unbuckle. The only reson we dont have seatbelts on buses is the cost would go up. Also as far as the kids refusing to wear the belts, give them the same 125 ticket that others get and they would wear them. Now I am all for NO GOVERNMENT RULES and not having to even take our kids to school or anybody wear seat belts but if an adult goes without one in a private vehicle its a ticket so why not have them on buses our kids ride? there is no good answer

heaven forbid there's a bad accident and a bus over turns or is on its side and the kids get thrown all over the bus but at least i guess it will be easy enough to get them out of the bus.

The only problem with seat belts is, aside from getting kids to use them, is the fact that if (god forbid) a serious accident and the bus was on it's side or upside down. Now think about how hard it would be for rescuers to get all those kids out, especially if there is a valid reason to hurry. School buses are very well made. I can understand your concern, but please try to understand all of it. btw I'm a volunteer FireFighter and would be one of the ones to have to help get the kids out. It's very scare to think about.

newver never ever will get why I get a ticket for riding my motorcycle sans helmet, and would be ticketed and could be charged with child endangerment for riding my kids sans seatbelt but millions of kids are put on buses daily without seatbelts
