A Duplin County Democrat says he won't seek a sixth term in the North Carolina House.
Rep. Russell Tucker said Monday he will retire from the Legislature at the end of the year to spend more time with his family and on other endeavors.
The 66-year-old Tucker arrived in Raleigh in 1999 and served two terms before losing to a Republican in 2002. He returned to the House in 2005. Tucker is the House pensions committee chairman and has worked on agriculture and military matters.
Tucker's 4th House District includes part of Onslow County and all of Duplin. No one had filed to run for his seat as of late last week. The filing period ends Friday.
