Previous Story

Duplin County authorities say they have a death investigation underway.

Sheriff Blake Wallace says a teenager was found dead in a mobile home on Guy Sanderson Road, that's outside of Albertson in northern Duplin County.

Wallace tells WITN News that the death of Kener Barahona is being treated as a homicide right now. He says an autopsy will be conducted Saturday.

The sheriff says there are no suspects yet and they will treat the teen's death as a homicide until they learn more from the autopsy. Wallace says the body was found this morning by a roommate.

An older brother of the victim said he last talked to Barahona Monday when the 17-year-old said he was walking back from a friends home. The brother says the victim lived in the mobile home with the roommate and had only been in North Carolina for about a month.

9/30 Family still waiting more information. He was new in area. I do not feel it was anything like a gang problem as they leave signature evidence. Other ideas? Burglary, he had just walked home alone. Did a new admirer cause jealousy? He had only been in area about 2 months. Family planning to send body back to ElSalvador. Thanks to all who helped contribute to this cause.

Why is law enforcement so secretive about this? The longer they wait or hold out on the details, the more time it gives the shooter(s) to run. He was so young. It is sad that law enforcement isn't more assertive.
