Fatal Jones County Accident

A Jones County man is dead after a troopers say he lost control of his car, and swerved into a tractor trailer.

It happened around 10:30 am just outside of Pollocksville in Jones County Monday.

Troopers say 46 year old Rodrick Ward of Pollocksville was traveling south on 17, when he lost control of his car, swerved left of center, and was struck by a tractor trailer driven by David Phillips Junior of Charlotte.

Ward was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers say traffic was tied up for more than 4 hours. No charges will be filed

Previous Story:

Two vehicles collided in Jones County, just north of Pollocksville, about 10 a.m. Monday.

Reports indicate the vehicles were a passenger car and a tractor trailer.

There is no word on the seriousness of injuries.

The accident happened at Highway 17 and 10 Mile Fork Road.

    A piece of my heart is missing I also knew Leon personally. My family and his family have been connected as far back as i can remember. i will cherish his memory forever and ever in my heart and mind. My deepest sympathy goes to his family and friends he was a weel known and well loved man he will be missed. The city of pollocksville will not be same with out him. Love you and miss you

    This is a very dangerous road. I live near there and have seen so many fatal accidents within this 6 mile stretch from Pollocksville to the Craven Co. line where it turns to a 4 lane divided highway. Pray for us all, and please call or write NC government to get the highway 17 project completed, ASAP.

    i just got the news leon was an friend of mine's also an high school graduate you will forever be in our heart 1980 go trojans what an wonderful young man but God is Good all the time and he is here for us through this too.
