Furlough For Jones County Employees

A tight budget has Jones County employees in taking a six day furlough.

All 110 county employees will have 48 hours leave without pay during the next fiscal year to maintain a 70 cent property tax rate.

The furlough will allow the county to save about 65 thousand dollars.

County Commissioners will take a little more than a 2 percent pay cut, which will equal the furlough taken by employees.

The cut is a bi-product of an 8 percent reduction for most county departments.

County leaders say the pay reduction will be mostly reflected in holiday pay.

This is a County government with commisioners I have respect for there. Martin, Beaufort, and Pitt Counties would go the other route any day I would have to guess. If only the state government would take a pay cut among these high up politicians, then that would be a step in the right direction, but it's too bad that the crooks would make that such a thing as the last resort for this state.
