Authorities now say a teenager, found dead Wednesday along some Jones County railroad tracks, apparently fell asleep on the tracks.
Damaris Guzman's father says his 13-year-old daughter apparently ran away with her cousin Monday night.
After speaking with the other child, investigators say it appears the two decided to fall asleep on the railroad tracks off Caswell Station Road and did not get out of the oncoming train in time.
Earlier the district attorney said they believed Guzman was either trying to jump on or off the moving train.
The child's death has been ruled an accident.
Authorities do not believe foul play was involved in the death of a Kinston teenager whose body was found near some railroad tracks in Jones County Wednesday.
District Attorney Dewey Hudson tells WITN News that the victim was Damaris Guzman of Kinston. He says the 13-year-old girl died from blunt force trauma and believes she was injured while jumping on or off a moving train.
Hudson says the death has been ruled an accident, though there is evidence that someone else was also injured.
The body was found off Caswell Station Road near railroad tracks, not far from the Lenoir County line.
The district attorney says they're in the process of trying to interview others who may have been involved.
