The National Weather Service is sending teams to check damage where six tornadoes touched down as a strong storm system passed through North Carolina.
Meteorologist Ryan Ellis of the weather service's Raleigh bureau said Wednesday that four tornadoes hit in Wake, Nash, Johnston and Wilson counties.
The storm system ripped across the state Tuesday evening, causing three minor injuries and damaging at least a dozen homes.
Meteorologist John Elardo at the weather service office in Newport said tornadoes also hit in Pitt and Duplin counties.
The officials said teams are heading out to check damage so they can determine the strength of the twisters.
Another round of storms is expected later in the day and Ellis said the weather could be unsettled through Friday.
