UPDATE: Airport Police Chief Still In Hospital

We have new information on the condition of a local airport police chief who was involved in an accident.

We received a report Friday afternoon that Hans Miller had been discharged but have since learned that Miller is not being discharged, that he is being held for observation.

That information comes from Chris White, the director of the Albert J. Ellis airport.

Troopers say Miller was in a motorcycle wreck just after 6:00 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 11 and Highway 111 in Duplin County.

Miller currently serves as the head of the police department at Albert J. Ellis Airport in Jacksonville. Miller was named Peace Officer of the Year by the Veterans of Foreign Wars N.C., District 4, in February of this year. He has also already announced to WITN and other media outlets he intends to run for Sheriff of Onslow County at the next election in 2014.

Troopers said one witness saw Miller seemingly draped over the left side of his motorcycle. Troopers said it appeared Miller had been drug for a few feet by the bike before it hit a ditch. The motorcycle continued 30-40 feet, while Miller fell off and was left on the roadside.
