Kidnapping Suspect Appears Before Judge

A man who authorities say kidnapped his ex-girlfriend last Monday appeared before a Craven County judge this morning.

Ryan Brown turned himself in to lawmen in Franklin County after a three day search in the woods near his home. That home is where they found the victim, Katherine Bolton, and last saw Brown on Monday running into the woods.

Craven County deputies say Brown broke into Bolton's home on Country Springs Road early on March 19th and kidnapped the woman.

Before a judge in New Bern, Brown was formally charged with kidnapping and burglary. His bond here is $500,000.

Brown also faces charges in Franklin County, including kidnapping, assault, false imprisonment, possession of a weapon and possession of a stolen weapon.

Katherine Bolton was kidnapped from her home early Monday morning after deputies say her former boyfriend broke in.

Some 8-1/2 hours later they found Bolton at Brown's home in Franklin County. As lawmen approached the home, they say Brown took off running into some woods.

Franklin County Sheriff Jerry Jones says Brown was dressed in camouflaged clothing, covered in mud, tick bites and scratches from being out in the woods. Jones says Brown is an avid outdoorsman who knew how to survive in the woods.

The man is charged in Franklin County with assault, kidnapping, false imprisonment, possession of a weapon, and possession of a stolen weapon. At his home they found five long guns and a couple of pistols.

Sheriff Jones says Brown "lawyered up" and isn't saying why he allegedly kidnapped the woman. The man also faces additional charges in Craven County.

No bond has been set for Brown and he remains in the Franklin County jail.

Lawmen in Eastern Carolina are on the lookout for a man who kidnapped a woman during an early morning home invasion.

Craven County deputies say it happened around 4:45 a.m. at a home on Country Springs Road, north of New Bern.

Investigators say Katherine Bolton called 911 to report someone was breaking into her house. When deputies arrived they found one of the rear windows in the home broken out and Bolton missing.

They have since learned that Ryan Brown broke into the home and kidnapped the woman. Detectives believe Brown has left the Craven County area and may be driving a 2007 Ford pickup truck with NC tags XK-8976. The pickup is off white and has a dog box in the back of the truck.

I will say this to all of you in support of Ryan. Since his moving to that location I have seen many from all around the park come and go to that location often times at many different times of the day and night and let me say this,he had far too many possessions to be paid for by just a mere lanscaping business! I have heard many say on here that they let him take their children down to the river? That is insanity! I have seen the man fly down the road at 60 miles an hour in a rural area and scratch off tires! There are many neighbors in support of him out here because I believe there was illegal drug activity going on! Also when his trailer burned I know for a fact that he was the only one present when the fire started and then the next day all the tires on his vehicles were slashed to sweeten the pot! All of you in support of him are just as guilty as he is!

I don't know them, but it sure sounds like you are definitely jealous. To get on here and insinuate that he is a drug dealer and that he burned down his own house? If you don't know that for a fact, I would be concerned about running your mouth too much. Have you ever heard about libel and slander? Perhaps you may need to look up the definitions my friend and then see who is guilty of what--especially if you are saying what you are putting in writing here...

Ed please shut up, the guy cut her tires, cut her security alarm, broke into her house, threatened her for some time now, beat her and kidnapped her at knife point and you think he's an upstanding citizen? Ed, you are the not only ignorant, but very stupid too.

All of you people that say this guy will give you the shirt off his back, he's a great guy, he wouldn't hurt anyone, except beat up his girlfriend, cut her tires so she couldn't get away, cut her security alarm, break into her new home and then kidnap and torment her. Yeah, he's a great guy alright, when he gets out of prison go have your daughter pick him up, he's sounds like he would treat her like a lady and he's a great catch, right?
