Charges as pending after an accident this morning closed down a busy highway in one Eastern Carolina county.
The Highway Patrol says the crash happened around 8:00 a.m. Thursday on Highway 43 near Mile Road, just north of Vanceboro.
Troopers say a Honda, driven by Carl Midgett of Grantsboro, pulled out into the path of an 18-wheel wood chip truck with a full load. The big rig struck the driver's side of the car, and the 55-year-old Midgett was taken to Vidant Medical Center by EastCare. The other driver was not injured.
The highway was shut down for about 20 minutes while the accident was cleared. The accident remains under investigation.
