2 Injured In New Bern Bridge Wreck Identified

We now know the names of the two people involved in a rollover accident in New Bern Tuesday morning on Highway 70 which resulted in the driver getting ejected. Troopers said they suspect alcohol was a factor in this wreck.

Troopers say the 24-year old driver, Michael Riggs Junior was not wearing his seatbelt when he was thrown from the car. He and his 22-year-old passenger April Everett were both taken to the hospital after their vehicle overturned along the Trent River Bridge. Troopers say Riggs and Everett live at the same address in New Bern.

Troopers said a 24-year old driver and 22-year-old passenger were both transported to the hospital after their vehicle overturned on a bridge, ejecting the driver.

Troopers said the vehicle veered out of the lane while traveling along the Trent River Bridge on Highway 70 in New Bern early Tuesday morning. The vehicle hit the guardrail, the driver over-corrected and hit the opposite guardrail before flipping the vehicle.

Troopers said they do suspect alcohol to be a factor in this wreck.

The wreck was cleared by 5 a.m.

Dispatchers confirmed a vehicle flipped over along a Highway 70 bridge.

Highway Patrol dispatchers tell WITN early this morning, a vehicle flipped over on the Trent River Bridge, that is along Highway 70 in New Bern.

Dispatchers had no further information to release but said that by 5AM, the wreck was cleared.

Troopers declined to comment on the accident until later Tuesday morning.
