The Highway Patrol says a man and a 5-year-old boy had to be airlifted after a crash on Highway 70 Thursday.

Troopers say about 4:30 pm in Craven County, Jerry Dixon fell asleep at the wheel of his Chevy Monte Carlo and ran off Highway 70 near Riverdale Road. Dixon and his girlfriend's 5-year-old son suffered non-life threatening injuries. The road was closed for about 30 minutes as helicopters landed on the highway to airlift the victims to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. Troopers say charges are pending.
