Troopers say a Pamlico County Sheriff's deputy ran off a highway and hit a utility pole Wednesday night on his way to a domestic in progress call.
Sgt. Toler with the Highway Patrol says he is still investigating the case and the deputy has not been charged with anything as of late Wednesday night.
Troopers say Deputy Stephen Beck had his blue lights and siren activated just before 9:00 p.m. on Highway 55 in Stonewall when he ran off the road and traveled over a grass shoulder, a grass driveway at 17038 Highway 55, hit a ditch and a utility pole and then ended up in a wooded area about 50 yards off the highway.
Sgt. Toler says Beck didn’t appear to have any major injuries at the scene, but he was taken by Sheriff's Department personnel to be checked out at the hospital.
