Cherry Point Marines, Families Get Free Christmas Trees

It's first come first serve for troops and military families looking to receive a free, fresh Christmas tree as a thank you for their sacrifices.

The delivery of trees began this morning at Cherry Point. Officials there said 600 trees were donated, that is 100 more than the 2012 giveaway. This year's crop came from Nova Scotia.

Officials say that since 2005, more than 103,000 free, farm-grown Christmas trees have been provided to troops and military families in the United States and overseas through Trees for Troops. Thousands of trees are donated by American farm families and the public, and FedEx delivers these trees to more than 60 military bases in the U.S. and overseas.

Marine Corps Community Services and Marine volunteers are on hand to distribute the trees. Military identification cards must be shown.
