The Salvation Army serving Craven and Pamlico Counties wrapped up their holiday distribution Wednesday.
This year they served over 890 families, 25-percent of those families have never asked for their assistance before.
Families have been picking up their toys and food for the past two days. Volunteer Walter Reed says it's the distribution days that have kept him coming back for 10 years. Reed says, "The parents want to give their children something and when they're unable to do that it must be a really horrible feeling, so we hope to alleviate that and make it good for the whole family."
Red kettle donations to the Salvation Army serving Craven and Pamlico counties are up $10,000 over this time last year, but we're told they need to continue to raise money year round to help those in need.
