Officials are asking for your help finding a registered sex offender who took off his monitoring ankle bracelet.

They're looking for 44 year old Maurice Lewis. The New Bern Sun Journal says his GPS monitor was found on top of Omega Community Center Building on Cedar Street in New Bern and he has not been detected since January 30th.

If you know the whereabouts of Maurice Lewis, you could get a reward through Crimestoppers by calling 252-633-5141.

Kids at community center? Public alerted over a week later? Gee, does GPS tracking info need to be available to the PUBLIC in real time? Why did the police wait so long? Some Police in NC show the same sort of consideration for the public when someone is missing. TIME IS A VALUABLE COMMODITY and NC LAW ENFORCEMENT needs to maximize its potential instead of abusing and wasting it imo. I hope JOHNQPUBLIC helps put this man back on the grid and helps keep our children and our community as safe as we can!

this is why the judge should have to let sex offenders live beside them if they want to sentence them to the ankle bracelet. Let some marijuana users and even dealers if nedded out of jail, make room for child molesters and lock their butts up for 10 years the 1st time, life the second

Maybe his fate will be the same as the one they found in Beaufort county.

We can only hope. The bracelets should explode if they are tampered with.
