Police say they are concerned for the safety of a mother and her 4 year old son who have now been missing for almost a week.
Jessica Canelos and her son, Aidan, were last seen Friday morning as they left for Raleigh to visit her father for the weekend. Her father tells Havelock police that he has had no contact with his daughter or grandson.
Police now say they have discovered that Canelos left with an acquaintance from Carteret County, Christopher Johnson. Police say the two adults gathered Johnson's belongings from his home and left the area with her son. Cell phone records show that the woman's cell phone was active in the area of Brownsville, Texas.
U.S. Customs and Homeland Security shows the two adults had entered back into the U.S. at 6:58 p.m. on May 20th.
Police say there is no information that leads them to believe the mother and child are the victims of foul play or have engaged in any illegal activity. The two should be traveling in the woman's 2008 silver Hyundai Sante Fe with North Carolina tags TYS-2434.
Canelos is 28 years old. She has brown hair and blue eyes. She is 5'6" tall and weighs 110 pounds. The woman has a large scar on her forehead and a tattoo of a fairy sitting on a mushroom on her right shoulder.
Aidan is 4 years old with blonde hair and blue eyes. He is 3'6" tall and weighs between 35 and 40 pounds.
Johnson is 42 years old with brown hair and brown eyes. He is 6' tall and weighs 160 pounds.
