Police: River Bend Store Larceny Leads To Dramatic Chase

A Craven County store manager called for help about a theft in progress, talking with police even while they say he was being assaulted. It all ended in a police chase.

Police say the manager at the Dollar General at 455 Pirates Road in River Bend called about the larceny and was on the phone with the police chief when the suspect started attacking him. When the chief got there, he says the suspect, identified as 36-year-old Deandre Hill of New Bern, tried to ram his van into the chief's car. The chief took evasive action to avoid a collision. That led to a chase reaching speeds of 85 miles per hour. It came to an end when the driver of a tractor trailer saw the approaching chase and moved his vehicle across the road, forcing Hill to stop.

Hill was jailed under a $26,000 bond and faces numerous charges.
