Oriental Officials: Mosquitoes Not A Major Pesty Problem This Summer

In Oriental in Pamlico County this time of year, you know the buzz around town is usually the mosquito population.

With all the rain we've been having you'd think we'd be inundated with the blood suckers, but according to the town of Oriental's mosquito expert, Public Works Director Jason Collett, all that rain has helped by flushing out larvae and mosquito nests.

Oriental hasn't had to spray at all for the pests.

Another thing that draws the mosquitoes according to the mosquito patrol are the northern winds, and the weather this year just hasn't been favorable for mosquitoes.

The mosquito patrol in Oriental did some preventive measures as well this year. They put what they call dunks in stagnant water, a natural and biodegradable pest control disk that dissolves in water and larvae eat it and die.
