New Bern city leaders are hoping a new look and new slogan will bring in more businesses, tourists, and make people want to live in the historic town.
New Bern announced its new "brand" at a meeting Tuesday night with the board of aldermen at city hall.
After spending $85,900 for consultants to research and come up with the brand, city officials got their first look at how they'll market themselves to outsiders. It's a brand they hope will build on New Bern's strengths, and improve on its weaknesses.
"Everything comes together here," is New Bern's new brand.
City Manager Mike Epperson says, "Togetherness and inclusiveness became the driver for our new logo and tagline."
North Star Destination Strategies was hired back in June of 2012 by the city to come up with the brand. Part of the research involved comparing New Bern to other neighboring cities, like Greenville, Jacksonville, and Wilmington.
The research showed that the two biggest strengths of New Bern were its location at the Neuse and Trent Rivers, and it's historical significance.
Some of the biggest weaknesses, were a lack of nightlife, and appeal to young people.
The city says the next step is to present the "Everything Comes Together Here" brand across the community, and decide how to use it in the short and long term.
