New Bern's "Walk A Mile In Her Shoes" March For Sex Assault Awareness

Just three days after a woman reported a sexual assault at Union Point Park In New Bern, that park was the starting point Friday night for a sexual assault awareness march.

More than 100 people gathered for the first annual "Walk A Mile In Her Shoes" event.

Both men and women wore heels and walked a mile around the town, before heading to a vigil at the Christ Episcopal Church.

All of the proceeds from the event went to Promise Place and the Coastal Women's Shelter, to support victims of sexual assault.

The Craven Early College also organized the event and had plenty of students volunteering.

On Tuesday, a woman told police that she was sexually assaulted in Union Point Park, around 7:30 p.m. No arrests have been made in that case.
