A New Bern woman and her adult son found themselves face to face with masked gunmen inside their home Tuesday night, and police said those crooks were demanding money.
New Bern police say two armed men broke through the backdoor of a home on Halifax Circle in New Bern around 10:30 Tuesday night. That neighborhood is off Elizabeth Avenue and South Glenburnie Road.
Police said the homeowners had no money to give, so the gunmen ransacked the place, eventually stealing cell phones and taking off.
Lt. Rhonda Allen says they don't believe this home invasion was random, that the people in the home were targeted.
Police said they brought out dogs in an attempt to track the two robbers, but they could not find a trail. Officers are working to find out if the duo had a get-away car waiting nearby.
For now, no suspect descriptions are available and police said the search for the crooks continues.
If you saw anything in the area Tuesday night, you are asked to call the police department at (252) 672-4100.
