Taylor Griffin has announced he will run to displace Walter B. Jones in the 3rd Congressional District.
Griffin's biography says the businessman has worked on staff with former Senator Jesse Helms, in the White House for George W. Bush, and with the United States Treasury Department.
The candidate says he would take the "conservative principles and values" he learned in the east to Washington.
Current Congressman Walter B. Jones served 10 years in the state General Assembly before being sworn in to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1995.
Jones is serving his 10th term in Congress, and is now a member of the House Committee on Armed Services.
Taylor planned to address media regarding his candidacy and campaign plans at 9:15 Thursday morning in Greenville.
