Search Continues For New Bern Dollar General Shooter

The search continues for the man who shot two workers at a Dollar General store while robbing it, now two weeks after the crime.

The crime happened at the Dollar General on Neuse Blvd. in New Bern on Tuesday, July 24th. Police say the shooter stole cash from the store and shot two workers.

The search continues for the gunman who shot two Dollar General employees more than a week ago in New Bern during a robbery.

New Bern Police say they continue to follow leads and are working with other agencies and asking for help from the public as well. Police Chief Toussaint Summers, " It's very important because you are our eyes and ears. The police can't be everywhere obviously so if you are alert to suspicious activities and phone it in and jot down tag numbers and don't get involved yourself it's very helpful."

Police say the robber left the scene in a black Hyundai Sonata with either no license plate or a covered plate.

The store has made some changes following the shooting, including adding a security guard and closing earlier.

A day after 2 people were shot at a Dollar General in New Bern, 911 calls were released as the search for a suspect continues.

The victims have been identified as store clerk Christopher Phillips and store manager Donte Dillahunt. They were injured when the gunman entered the Neuse Boulevard store and shot them during a robbery before taking off.
Even shot though he was shot, Phillips managed to call 911 and tried to help police on scene telling dispatchers he was shot in the side and his manager was shot in the face.

Caller: He's already left. I don't know, he's carrying a dollar general bag. I think he went that way.
Responding officer: That way?
Caller: Yes sir.

Dillahunt also called 911 and said he was shot, but couldn't give much more information to dispatchers. Phillips family says he was shot in his thigh and a bullet grazed him. Dillahunts family says he is doing as well as expected after being shot but they are not giving any additional information on his injuries.
