NEW INFO: Power Restored For Chocowinity Residents

Another power outage has hit Beaufort County, this time customers of Progress Energy.

Part of Chocowinity lost power around 11:00 a.m. Progress Energy's web site says more than 650 customers were without power.

Progress says power was restored around 12:15 p.m. and says an overhead line "locked out", causing the outage.

Tideland EMC says crews have installed a new utility pole to replace the one hit by lightning Monday night. Officials also now report a line down between Old Sandhill Road and Tunstall Swamp Road.

The latest estimate for power to be restored is 9 a.m. Tuesday, according to Tideland EMC. Officials reported 939 customers lost power at 9:30 p.m. Monday.

Tideland Electric says nearly 1,000 people are without power in southern Beaufort and Pamlico Counties.

The company says the outage occurred around 9:30 p.m. Monday when lightning snapped the top of a utility pole. A track vehicle has been sent to the site, but the pole is in a remote location that is difficult to access.

Tideland Electric says customers are not expected to have power restored before 8 a.m. Tuesday.
