Highway Patrol says Highway 17 near the Highway 70 split in New Bern was closed about 45 minutes Wednesday night.

Trooper C.A. Taylor says it happened about 9:30 p.m.near the 1st Street exit heading into downtown New Bern. Trooper Talyor says a blue Toyota Prius was heading south over the Neuse River Bridge when it ran off the side of the road hitting the crash cushion, then bounced back in the road, and ended up sideways in the middle of the highway. Trooper Taylor says after about 45 seconds a second vehicle clipped the front end of the Pruis. No one was seriously hurt.

It was at the exit on the bridge that goes to Hwy 70 hence westbound.

17 is a north south highway. there is no westbound. If this is 70 then it could be westbound.

hwy 17 and hwy 70 are the same highway across the Trent River bridge to MLK Blvd. Odd/even hwy numbers don't always follow the rules.
