DEPUTIES: $30,000 Taken By Minges Bottling Manager

An assistant regional manager for one of the most well-known businesses in Eastern Carolina made a brief appearance in jail overnight for embezzlement charges.

The Pitt Count Sheriffs Office says 38 year old Christopher Coggins of the Minges Bottling Group faces five counts of embezzlement and one count of larceny by an employee.

Deputies say $30,000 was taken from machines in four counties.

Detectives say Coggins was caught on tape using keys to open drink machines and take money out. A key tracking system also helped identify Coggins as a suspect, authorities say.

Deputies say the crimes have been going on since last September in Pitt, Craven, Lenoir and Greene Counties. They say Coggins turned himself in.

Jail reports show he posted a $10,000 bond.

In a statement, Minges Chairman & CEO Jeffrey Minges says Coggins is a former employee and that they are cooperating with authorities on their ongoing investigation.

The sadest thing to see is irrational behavior by those who poise themselves to be above all that. Prayer is called for here, not childish post. To the relative below, who by the way is showing ignorance instead of class..grow up. Be supportive in a quiet more useful way. Not good smarts expose your relative to a harmful, watchful media by way of the internet. Hostility only breeds more hostility.

It seems like everyone seems to know everything that happened when you see a post on WITN. I would believe that our Lord and Savior along with the accussed is the one's that know and no matter what happens down here this young man will face a higher authority as each of us will. Please let the justice system runs its course and do not continue to interject things we do not know but only assume. this is also a case that we don't need JJ or anyone else down here trying to decide. Lord we ask and pray that you will help each and everyone of us to stay out of other people's business that does not concern us personally. Thank You

people,we should never rejoice in the misfortunes of others. karma is a mother. i've seen the video footage just as everyone else has seen it,but we should let the laws of the land determine what comes of this situation. so,kill all the bashing and racial stuff... consider if it were you or some of your own people?..most of you would be ready to go to war, even if you knew in your hearts that you were guilty of the crime(not saying he is,because only God and he knows the whole truth). so,everybody put down your torches and pitchforks,AND stop kicking a man when he's down. do something positive and pray for him?

Well, I want to think it was about a habit/addiction that he must have had and this was his way of using these funds to outside of his probably 5 figure income to cover up this habit/addiction. He had a great position within the company, I mean we are talking asst. Regional manager @ 38yrs old, WOW, to lose it all for a petty opportunity to cover up what must be a serious habit/addiction to save embarrasment just to get caught and put on blast anyway and lose it all. How EMBARRASSING!!!. I feel sorry for him.

I understand that freedom of speech is a right but really? So many childish people up here. Innocent until proven guilty remember! Get a life people and stay out of others! Let a judge decide if he's guilty or not. Keep your head up Chris!

"Innocent Until Proven Guilty"....the law was written many years ago. Since that time, our lives have been changed by audio & video recording. When a guy is seen on tape going into suspected theft zones, at unusual times (not regular business hours), with other evidence making astronomical odds against him....most people would agree that the posibility of him being wrongly accused are not worth consideration. But, if you're his friend or relative, it might be difficult to accept the facts. I'm sorry.

So many comments. Why is it because Minges have money they need ant possibly be the victom? Some one stole from them. As employers they put up with a lot. But stealing is not tolerated. Nor should it be. Maybe "drinking coca cola" was putting too mu h pressure him to live beyond their means. He was employed by Minges did not mean he could live executive lifestyle. Help the brother out financially where he would feel like he was letting u down if not bringing home more and more. Di yhe math girl. U cant drive a benzo on a pinto salary.

Before you get on here and voice your critical thoughts, and trying to embarrace him or his wife, learn how to spell and complete your sentences. The law clearly states, innocent until proven guilty. Instead of already proving him guilty, do something that anyone in his situation would do, pray for him and his family.
