A man ended up in a swamp this afternoon after an animal jumped out in front of his vehicle.
State troopers say Ernest William of New Bern wasn't hurt in the 1:00 p.m. crash on Highway 55 in Fort Barnwell.
The man told the Highway Patrol that he swerved to avoid the animal, and his SUV ran off the road and down into the swamp. William was eventually able to get out of the vehicle and climb to safety.
