Man Pleads Guilty To Dog Fighting

A Pamlico County man has admitted to dog fighting charges after a raid on his property last August.

Cody Ushry, Jr. pleaded guilty Monday and was given a suspended sentence.

This past summer authorities found 17 pit bull-type dogs on Ushry's property on Florence Road, along with suspected dog fighting paraphernalia.

As part of his sentence, the man cannot participate in breeding dogs, can't visit websites that advocate dog fighting and must complete 80 hours of community service.

This is absolutely outrageous! This man is a true criminal and the judge that gave this dispicable criminal a slap on the hand needs to be investigated. Report him to the Judicial Ethics Committee for you state and then make sure he is not re-elected!

The entire thing is disgusting. Dog fighters and spectators are worse than medieval folk who watched bear baiting. This "man," for lack of a better term, deserved more than a slap on the wrist. Ugh!

What kind of sentence is that? Dogfighting is a FELONY, 'your honor', not a joke! This piece of scum will certainly not be deterred any more than his scumball friends, thanks to this abysmal and ignorant ruling. It makes you wonder just WHO is adminstering justice there.

This is crazy! What is wrong with the judicial system to give this scumbag, a slap on the wrist for dog fighting! For crying out loud it's a felony and the man should've gone to jail!! Not one person that allowed this plea deal to go through thought about the cruel and inhumane treatment to all of those poor, defenseless dogs. Shame on them! All I can do is sit here and shake my head in utter disgust.

Mike Vick didn't do a single day for dog fighting charges. He went to prison for bank rolling the operation. These kind of sentences are clearly not enough. Dog fighters and animal abusers should be severely punished and made an example of.
