Mopeds should not be on the road! Most of the drivers of them are drunks. They are nothing but a danger to law abiding citizens.

Has anyone ever thought about the fact that some of the people driving these mopeds may be someone who has fallen on hard times and cant afford the upkeep of a car/truck and gas to get back and forth. And as for freeloaders, you need to be more concerned about the people living off welfare(our tax dollars)with numerous children, driving fancy cars with 20 inch rims dealing drugs down at the local crack house. Yes the mopeds may be a problem but there are alot bigger problems going on around here. But no one seems to complain about those issues.

It's my experience that most of these folks driving mopeds are former DWI/DUI recipients!

This is a motor vehicle and is on the same roads as is my truck so why doesn't the driver need a license, registration, and insurance. I am tired of paying for these freeloaders. I hope this guy lives and is all right but the rules have got to change!

It sounds to me like the ones riding the scooters are the smart ones when it comes to finances and avoiding state tax: 1) No tag fees 2) No title fee 3) No insurance 4) No property tax 5) 100 mpg = much lower fuel tax 6) No inspection fee 7) No drivers license fee ...and the list goes on. Figure up what you spend these items and you could afford to buy a few extra 12-packs or pints too.

I can't believe this is the first! I drive on a four lane highway to work every day and see these liquor-cycles coming and going......no tags, no insurance, etc....all for getting a DUI. Something is WRONG with this picture people! When an insured vehicle has to swerve into another lane to avoid smearing this drunk all over the road, they are risking their lives as well as the cars in the lane they are forced to swerve into. There is NO incentive for these people to try to get their licenses back....what for??? They are not having to spend a dime on insurance or tags or anything we are.......I do agree, they have one big death wish......but the motorist that hits them will probably do time for it!

So you believe all people who ride scooters have had DUI's? That is about the stupidest comment I have ever read.

Hate to tell you all but the tax payers are paying the bill. Not all of them actually die. Many just get injured severely and require costly medical care.

I am sorry to hear that this person got hit, even though I believe that these vehicles should be licensed. My observations are that most operators of these scooters do not have adequate lighting and wear dark clothing. While riding my bicycle, I have a much higher profile with the high-viz vest I wear and lighting on my bike.

It's a moped, and you're correct in that case about lighting etc. Scooters are another matter. There are scooters with as much power as a motorcycle, designed for riding on freeways at normal speeds. Mopeds are the problem, not scooters.
