Deputies said the man had nearly 125 plants growing in three different plots within the Croatan.

Investigators said earlier this week, U.S. Forest Service discovered three plots of land with marijuana growing in them. Those officials closely watched the plots until they said John Wallace of New Bern rode through the forest on a bike, to tend the gardens.

Deputies along with the U.S. Forest Service chased the man, as he fled on foot into the Croatan National Forest. Investigators employed the use of a search helicopter, but could not find the man Monday night, By Wednesday, investigators located the man in a residence on Tryon Road.

Wallace is now facing multiple drug charges, including possession of marijuana, and the intent to sell, deliver, or distribute the same drug.
