MCAS Cherry Point To Cut Down Trees For Safety Reasons

Some tall trees could be endangering one military base's air field, so now they have to go.

Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point officers say they will remove three large tracts of trees along Highway 101 in mid-August. The harvest will take place near Crocker Road and Cunningham Boulevard near the main gate at Cherry Point.

The tree species in this block, mostly pine and some hardwoods, exceed safe height clearances.

Officers say their goal is to keep the airfield and surrounding community safe.
