Lightning Strikes Home, Starts Fire

Homeowners tell WITN lightning struck their home Saturday afternoon in Craven County, starting a small fire in the attic area.

It happened at a home on Cherry Branch Road.

Two people were home at the time. They say they heard something that sounded like a gunshot and realized it was lightning.

They say there were storms in the area at the time.

The lightning hit the side of their house. It started a fire in the attic and near an extension they were putting on the house.

Around 16 firefighters were called to the scene to put out the fire. No one was injured.
