The funeral for an elderly man killed in a weekend house fire will be held Tuesday.
Phillip Prescott, Sr. died after fire tore through his Grantsboro home around 1:40 a.m. Saturday.
The 80-year-old man's funeral will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Bryant Funeral Home in Alliance.
Prescott was a member of the Prescott Brothers Quartet, a popular Southern gospel singing quartet here in Eastern Carolina.
There has been no cause released yet for the fire.
An investigation is underway into what caused an overnight house fire where an elderly Pamlico County man was killed.
Fire Marshal Chris Murray says that Pamlico County Volunteer Fire Departments got the call around 1:40 a.m. Saturday for a blaze on Prescott Road in Granstboro.
Officials say when they arrived on scene they discovered a split level home with smoke and fire coming from the roof. A relative told crews that one person was trapped in a second story bedroom.
Officials say firefighters entered the home and found 80-year-old Phillip Prescott Sr. on the 2nd story.
Prescott was taken out of the home where he was pronounced dead by EMS on scene.
Fire Marshal Murray says that his office in cooperation with the Pamlico County Sheriff’s Office and the SBI are conducting the investigation into the origin and cause of the fire.
