Eric Brooks, a habitual felon, is heading to jail for more than 7 years after authorities say the 43-year-old stole specialty tools from his employer, Munro Muffler Brake and Service in New Bern, then sold the tools at a local pawn shop.
Because Brooks had already been convicted of at least three prior felonies, he was sentenced as a habitual felon under North Carolina's version of the "three strikes" law.
Brooks also has fraud and identity theft charges pending in Onslow County.
