Dangerously hot conditions are expected to return to most of Eastern Carolina this afternoon. Then there will be yet another threat of severe weather across the region.
A heat advisory will be in effect from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. for counties east of I-95.
Temperatures in the mid 90s and high humidity will push the heat index or "feels like" temp to about 105°-109° by mid afternoon.
You should drink plenty of fluids, stay in air conditioning and check on the elderly and neighbors who live alone.
As the heat starts to break late in the day, we'll turn our attention to the severe weather threat. A cold front approaching from the north will likely bring another round of strong to severe storms Tuesday evening. The risk will probably come between about 5 p.m. through midnight.
Storms could bring wind gusts of 60 miles per hour, hailstones up to 1.25" (quarter sized) in diameter, frequent lightning and heavy downpours.
