Gator Approaches Boat Over Labor Day Weekend

Gator spotted on Slocum Creek on Labor Day weekend.

WITN viewer, Craig Perry, submitted a few up close and personal shots of an alligator as it approached his boat over the Labor Day weekend.

Perry said he was on Slocum Creek, in Craven County, when the gator appeared nearly 40 yards away. As it made its way closer to the boat, getting within 20 feet, Perry changed course, but snapped a few shots first.

N.C. Wildlife biologists were looking for an alligator getting close to one Hyde County couple's home just last week.

Robert Arnold told WITN he and his wife spotted a 3-5 foot alligator close to both their boat ramp and inching up towards the couple's deck. N.C. Wildlife biologists went out to find that gator, but could not track it.

Wildlife officials warn it is illegal to feed gators, and if you are caught doing so, you may be fined.
