A former Eastern Carolina teacher pleaded guilty today in federal court to producing child pornography.
Matthew Metcalf was a 5th grade teacher at W.J. Gurganus Elementary School in Havelock when he was arrested last summer.
The feds took over the case and the 40-year-old New Bern man made the plea before U.S. Magistrate Judge William Webb in Raleigh.
Investigators say Metcalf had encouraged young children to produce sexual images of themselves online.
When sentenced in July, the former teacher faces up to 30 years in prison.
