New Bern firefighters battled a house fire today in the noontime heat.
The call came in around 11:30 a.m. to a home near the intersection of 2nd Avenue and Broad Street.
Four fire trucks and two paramedic units responded to the call. The temperature at the time was 90° in New Bern. A city spokeswoman says they sent extra fire trucks so firefighters could rotate out and remain hydrated.
The home was in the process of being remodeled. Authorities say a worker left a pan left on the stove and went outside to speak with someone when the fire broke out.
Damage is estimated at around $15,000.
