A North Carolina ferry crew has rescued a kite surfer from the Neuse River.
Reports say the crew members on a ferry between Cherry Branch and Minnesott Beach rescued Eric Kindle Tuesday after the lines on his kite broke, leaving him stranded in the water without a life jacket.
The call for help came in shortly before 5 p.m. Night watchman David Buck said there were whitecaps in the river with winds of 25 mph.
Ferry Capt. David Moore said he was about half way across the river when he was asked to try to find the man in the water.
Moore says the ferry located Kindle about 500 yards offshore.
The ferry launched its 15-foot rescue boat and pulled Kindle to safety.
