Troopers say the driver of a pickup truck was killed after losing control while speeding in Fort Barnwell overnight.
The Highway Patrol identified the victim as 24-year-old Garett Tippett of New Bern.
The single vehicle crash happened on Belltown Road in Fort Barnwell in Craven County around 11:50 p.m. Thursday.
Troopers say Tippett was going above the posted speed limit, ran off the left side of the road, overcorrected and then ran off the right side of the road. When the truck hit the ditch, it flipped three times and Tippett was thrown from the vehicle.
Troopers say speed was a contributing factor and there is a possibility that alcohol maybe a factor as well.
