Last Monday's big fire in downtown New Bern that destroyed a warehouse has been labeled as suspicious.

The fire broke out around 7:10 p.m. at the North Carolina Railroad warehouse on North Craven Street. The building was occupied by Precision Molding.

The State Bureau of Investigation was called in to assist New Bern with determining the cause. A city spokeswoman said today the case remains open and the investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile, a fire which destroyed a restaurant and art gallery on Trent Road was accidental.

The city says the fire at Le Bistro Cafe & Art Gallery on May 25th was started by discarded smoking materials in the rear corner of the building.

The State Bureau of Investigation is assisting New Bern with determining what caused that massive fire Monday night downtown.

The fire broke out around 7:10 p.m. at the warehouse on North Craven Street. The building is owned by the North Carolina Railroad and was occupied by Precision Molding.

This morning firefighters were still putting out hotspots on the building. Some of the windows in the old warehouse were boarded up and it made it easy for the fire to spread and difficult for firefighters to battle the blaze.

So far there is no word on the cause of the fire. One firefighter was treated at the scene after becoming overheated.

Neighbors say the area is an old railroad storage and repair yard.
Firefighters are using the ladder on a truck to fight flames shooting through the roof. Police believe the building on fire is abandoned.

One firefighter was treated for becoming overheated, but we're told the firefighter continued to fight the blaze after treatment.
