The Highway Patrol said a driver was killed in a head-on collision Tuesday night during a police chase.
The accident happened just before 7:30 p.m. in Havelock. Craven County deputies and Havelock police were called about a truck driving recklessly on Highway 101.
Lawmen report they began chasing the truck, and the driver turned left onto Highway 70 into oncoming traffic. Troopers said that's when the suspect collided head-on with another truck.
Jeremy Banas of Newport, who was driving the chased truck, was killed in the accident. The driver in the other truck, 63-year-old Charles Smith of Havelock, was taken to CarolinaEast with minor injuries.
Troopers said they do suspect alcohol to have been a factor in the crash.
