Dry Conditions Return Four Months After Irene Strikes

Four months after Hurricane Irene dumped more than a foot of rain over much of Eastern Carolina, most of the area is again approaching drought conditions.

The latest drought maps show most of our area is under abnormally dry conditions, while drought conditions have already crept into Duplin County.

The only counties not facing a rain deficit are Edgecombe, Halifax, Nash and Northampton counties.

Before the hurricane many of our counties were under extreme and severe drought conditions.
