A jailer is no longer on the job after his arrest for assaulting his pregnant wife.
Beaufort County deputies charged Phillip Shanks, Jr. on Wednesday with assault on a female, battery of an unborn child, and communicating threats.
Shanks was a jailer at the Pamlico County jail for the past two years. Pamlico County said he was separated from his employment yesterday, but did not know if the man left on his own or was fired.
Pamlico County said Shanks had previously worked for the Beaufort County jail.
Shanks has since bonded out of jail.
